Behind the scenes we see Joseph, quietly obeying God’s leadership and sovereign hand. He responds to God through doing the right thing, even though he has very little (seemingly) to gain.

The main focus of this week: God asks us to respond to him, many times, through simple obedience. When we lack understanding or our feelings fail, we can fall back on doing the right thing as best as we know how – and God will be pleased with our obedience.

God leads the Wise Men from a different land, a different culture, to submit their rule to an infant Jewish boy, Jesus. They don’t even know what they are following. And they bring expensive gifts as a sign of their appreciation.

The main focus of this week: God calls us to a journey of many unknowns. Many times, we don’t’ even know what we responding to (fully), but yet we still respond. Also, this journey also requires us to make sacrifices – sometimes very costly sacrifices.

God comes to a seemingly insignificant member of the Jewish society – Mary – to start this new epoch of human existence. Mary responds with poetry – typical of Jewish culture.

The main focus of this week: God loves the marginalized. Mary responds with all that she has to give – which isn’t a lavish sacrifice, a well-spoken sermon, etc., but instead a song from her heart.

We all have a voice. We all have thoughts. We all have the freedom of expression. And we can give that to God through an act of worship, as a response to who he his.

Andy Ransdell kicked off our series entitled "Behind the Curtain" speaking about Marriage. He shared some facts about marriage, first that It is difficult and second, that if you neglect your marriage and it will run out of fuel. He advised the the way to fuel the marriage is to grow spiritually. fight fair, and keep the physical intimacy alive.

This baptism weekend we celebrated people who have said "yes" to asking Jesus into their lives. Charlie Matthews shared some traps that we can get caught in that hinder us from living a dying-to-self life..One trap is "Doing Good", thinking we can earn approval from the father. Then he interviewed Kim Young and talked about the "Carrying our Past into our Future" trap.

To end a week of SOS, Pete Bryant, Director of Student Ministries, spoke to us about our role as adults in the lives of teenagers. He asked the question, "Whom will your household serve?", and explained that we need to lead by example. Pete went on to talk about the power of a parent's presence in their kids' lives, and reminded us that there is always hope for prodigals.

For Father's Day, we had a guest artist Kate Miner, and Dave told us about his trip to Nigeria and how something as simple as clean water could save hundreds of lives. He went on to teach us about God the Father's Day Big Ideas.

In the last of our series The DaVinci Code, Andy Ransdell discusses the topic Do We Really Know Who Jesus Is? Andy poses the question: who do we say he is? The bible teaches that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. But the real question is, "Who do you think Jesus is?".

Andy Ransdell teaches part 3 of the DaVinci Code series entitled, There's Something About Mary... He talks about three specific claims that come out of the book, and where the truth really is. Those claims are: Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married, Jesus and Mary had a child together, and that Christianity oppresses women. We are encouraged to remember the FACTS. F for the false teaching we will hear; A for the accusations we will encounter; C encourges us to be confident in our beliefs; T for the training we need that comes from our bible; S for speaking up for what we believe.

Continuing in our DaVinci Code series, Dave address the question of "Can We Trust the New Testament?" He teaches us that there are two sides of the Truth Coin, the apologetic side and the experiential side.

Dave gave us an overview of what the book and movie The DaVinci Code had to say in his first series entitled The DaVinci Code - Don't Know Much About History. Then he interviewed Dr. Edwin Yamauchi, an expert in the area of acient history, the Old and New Testament, early church history, gnosticism and bibical archaeology. Dr. Yamauchi grew up in Hawaii, as a Budhist, and speaks 22 different languages.

In our last segment on "Morphing" Dave speaks about our New Failures. These failures are New because we are New in Christ. These New Failures include failing in our faith, failing to sumbit to God's plan, failing to understand who God really is, failing in our devotion, and failing in our morals. Dave then gives us his thoughts on what we should do when we fail.

Part 3 of "Morphing", Dave speaks about the primary morphing that happens as we surrender more of our lives to Jesus. Our relationship with God changes, our relationship with the world changes, and our relationship with ourselves change. It all centers around our 'changing' or 'morphing' into all that God wants us to be.

"Morphing" into Becoming Who You Are In Christ is all about making choices. Now that you are new in Christ some changes that will happen within you involve choosing what you will say, who you spend your time with, and what you do with your stuff. Dave Workman gave us a 'Making a Choice' scorecard to work with.

In the first of our series on "Morphing" associate pastor Andy Ransdell spoke on how spiritual change impacts how you view things. Some of those things that you begin to view differently include Circumstances, God and Yourself. Does a relationship with Jesus mean an improved life right now, and not just life after death?

Easter celebrates Jesus' victory over death. Friends of the Groom performed a spectular play entitled "The Rescue" where Bill is about to jump from a 17-story office building only to be saved by a friend he did not know. Senior Pastor Dave Workman shared how he was changed on an Easter day many years ago. And many people came to the stage and shared how there lives have been changed through Christ through a powerful display of signs. Dave prayed for anyone who wanted to accept Christ, and gave them a bible and CD, as Charlie Hines sang a touching song that he wrote, entitled, "Have Your Way."

It's Palm Sunday and senior pastor Dave Workman recounts the story of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem on this day - in triumph - and then his breakdown, as he weeps for the city. In the midst of that story are what Dave calls "Palm Sunday Big Ideas:" that God has his own plans...and we're invited to take part in them, that God will be worshiped, and that we need to be careful not to miss our "God visitation"...our divine opportunity - to allow Jesus into our hearts. That comes next week as we celebrate Jesus' victory over death.

Several times a year we pull the cover off of our onstage baptistry and celebrate changed lives. It's our baptism weekend when nearly 60 people make an outward sign of an inward change.

Senior pastor Dave Workman wraps up our "Mercy Me" series with his message "Bigger Tents." He says he's been challenged by some aspects of the series and shares some of what he's picked up along the way, all of which fly in the face of our society's preoccupation with consumerism and a skewed view of success and wealth. God paints a very different picture of who's wealthy in the kingdom. Dave shares a letter from mother who, after a devastating divorce in which she lost her home, realized how rich she and her family were - after they caught the vision of being outward focused.

Mercy Me - What If I Get Ripped Off? It's Dave Workman's message this weekend. As uncomfortable as it may seem, we're to be actively involved iwth helping the poor - the "under-resourced." We have to deal with the enemies of social justice: racism, judicial inequality, colonialism, and indifference. Dave speaks to each of these issues from a biblical/scriptural perspective. So what's Dave's answer to the question, "What if I get ripped off?" Simple: "It's not yours to start with."

"Mercy Me" is our current series and associate pastor Andy Ransdell presents this week's message, "God's Heart for the Poor." Sometimes we lose sight of the fact that most of us are among the world's most wealthy citizens; yet 55% of the population of earth lives on less than 2 dollars a day. It's disturbing to see the images of how "the rest of the world lives," yet poverty has no regard for the borders of our country. Andy doesn't lay a guilt trip on those of us who have more than we need but does point out that each of us can do something to help "alleviate the misery and injustice in our community, our nation and the world."

Part 3 of the Mercy Me series.

So much of the Vineyard's outreach is done week in and week out at our own "Mercy Works;" yet many of our people don't know much about it. Dave Workman, our senior pastor, visits Mercy Works and interviews the staff so we can have a better understanding of just how important it is to our mission: "To love the city of Cincinnati into relationship with Jesus and to give away to the world what God has given us." The people who serve at Mercy Works are sold out to that vision and it shows clearly in Dave's interview.

We kick off a new series this week entitled, "Mercy Me: God's Heart for the Poor - The God of Mercy." Senior Pastor Dave Workman reminds us that we're to have God's mercy for our enemies, for the victim, for the self-centered, and for the poor. We all need that mercy, too. As Paul writes in Ephesians 2:4-5, "...immense in mercy and with an incredible love, he (God) embraced us."

This weekend we welcome back our Founding Pastor, Steve Sjogren. It was more than 8 years ago that, in the course of routine gall bladder surgery, Steve's aorta was cut twice. In the course of the next few days, he died - 3 times. His new book, "The Day I Died," is the source of his message to us - what he heard from God during the time he was in a coma and what he learned during his recovery. Steve continues to speak around the country, both about the day he died and his commitment to servant evangelism.

Senior Pastor Dave Workman brings us the wrap-up message in our "Prison Break" series with his message, "Toxic Faith." He shares that the ways we think and act are often shaped by a faith that might look good but is destructive. Dave examines what he calls the top five toxic church signs. On a video interview, we meet one of our musicians, Collin Rowland, who was part of a toxic church. Dave also brings us a rare Top Ten List - the Top Ten Ways You Know You're In A Toxic Church.

The Vineyard takes a look at one of the most pervasive problems in our society - pornography. Why would we take the time on a weekend to address such an uncomfortable subject? Because Christians aren't immune to its effects. Senior pastor Dave Workman cites a statistic that more than 50% of the men who attended Promise Keepers admitted that they looked at it. It's all around us - on TV, on the Internet, in stores. We welcome the founders of the #1 Christian porn site, www.XXXChurch.com and their founders Craig Gross & Mike Foster as they explain how they got involved in ministering to those who have been hurt by pornography.

Senior Pastor Dave Workman continues our series, "Prison Break - Breaking Free From The Things That Control Us." His message is on Unforgiveness. As the ancient philosopher Workmanoctrates put it, "Unforgiveness is a prison with the lock on our side and the key in our hand." Even though we have the key, forgiveness, something we all need is a process. Dave outlines five steps to forgiving, beginning with admitting our pain and ending with recovering the worth of another person. He also has some practical hints - oil for the lock - in forgiving others.

Our series, "Prison Break - Breaking Free From The Things That Control Us" continues as speaking pastor Andy Ransdell takes a close look at anger - how people show it, what causes it, how we react to it - either stuffing it or spewing it, and how we can resolve issues that cause us to be angry. Andy's transparency regarding how he's handled anger give us some excellent examples of how we can let God challenge us when we are angry.

Speaking Pastor Andy Ransdell kicks off the first series of 2006 with "Prison Break - Breaking Free From The Things That Control Us." This week he speaks on "Shame," discussing the influence it has in our lives and how it hinders us - puts shackles on us, that can remain if we aren't able to break free. Andy interviews our Growth & Healing pastor, Mark Lutz, to discuss ways God can free us from shame that separates us from him. It's a strong messasge that received much good reaction from our audience.

As we closed out 2005 and brought in 2006 we took a video look back at our "Year In Review" and joined with some of the more than 50 people who chose to be baptized on this weekend. We look forward with them as they live their lives as Christ-followers.
