Questions
Beth’s friend often prays, “Thank You, Lord, for this day, which will never come again.” What thoughts or feelings come up when you hear that prayer? How might it change the way you walk into an ordinary day?
In Luke 10:38–42, Martha is busy preparing for guests while Mary sits at Jesus’ feet, and Jesus says Mary “has chosen what is better.” Beth said stewarding our time isn’t really about time management. It’s about listening and staying connected to Him. What do you think made Mary’s choice better? What might “sitting at Jesus’ feet” look like in the middle of a busy week?
Beth described taking about 30 seconds when she parks her car to pray, “Lord, I think I know what’s going to happen in there, but if You have something different for me, I’m open to it.” What helps you pause and check in with God before a conversation, a meeting, or a plan for your day?
Psalm 90:1–2 opens with “Lord, You have been our dwelling place throughout all generations.” Moses wrote it after 40 years of wandering in the wilderness with no permanent home. What does it mean to you that God Himself is our home, and that our security doesn’t depend on our circumstances?
Beth confessed that she gets “bumped” when she feels like someone is wasting her time. She said ownership sounds like “Don’t interrupt me, this is my day,” while stewardship turns interruptions into opportunities. Think about a recent interruption in your week. How might God have been at work in it?
Psalm 90:4 says a thousand years are like a day to God, and 2 Peter 3:8–9 reminds us that “the Lord is not slow in keeping His promise.” Beth admitted the times she gets frustrated with God are usually about timing, when something is happening too slowly or too fast. What makes it hard to trust God’s timing, and what has helped you trust Him more?
Beth talked about the signs outside the rooms at her uncle’s memory care facility, like “Ask me about my career” or “Ask me about my love of NASCAR.” She asked herself what her sign would say. What would you hope yours says one day? What would it look like to start living toward that now?
Psalm 90:12 says, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Beth paraphrased it as: “Help me understand the preciousness of each day You’ve entrusted to me, so that my whole inner life is shaped by wisdom that knows how to live faithfully before You.” Ben Sasse’s list after his diagnosis included more Sabbath, fewer devices at dinner, fewer trips, and more time with family. As you think about numbering your own days, what do you sense God inviting you to give more of your time to?
