Hope Starts Here: Embracing Holiness Through Caring and Community Transformation

Regan Yoakam | May 1, 2025

At Vineyard Cincinnati Church, we believe that holiness is not just about personal spiritual growth but also about how we actively express that holiness in our daily lives—especially through the way we care for one another. In this spirit, the Healing Center stands as a beacon of hope and transformation in our community, demonstrating that true holiness flows through acts of love, service, and compassion.

Adrianne Wiley, Executive Director of the Healing Center, shares the vital role the Healing Center plays in addressing the growing needs of families facing economic hardships. Her passion and dedication reveal how hope truly starts when basic needs are met, and lives are touched by the power of God’s love.

The Rising Need: Economic Hardships Impacting Families

One of the most pressing issues the Healing Center faces today is the increasing economic strain on families in our region. Rising costs of essentials—bread, eggs, gas, and more—have pushed many households into a precarious situation where living paycheck to paycheck has become the new normal.

Adrianne paints a vivid picture of this reality: “More and more families are just barely making it. They are one car repair, one hospital bill, or one home maintenance issue away from not being able to care for their families.” This fragile balance has led to a surge in people seeking assistance from organizations like the Healing Center.

Despite the challenges, the Healing Center sees it as a privilege to walk alongside these families, offering not just resources but a message of hope and transformation. The staff and volunteers work tirelessly to create an environment where people feel supported and empowered to overcome their struggles.

Introducing the “Hope Starts Here” Campaign

In response to the growing need, the Healing Center is launching the “Hope Starts Here” campaign, kicking off this May. This initiative is designed to focus the church community’s efforts and resources on meeting the immediate needs of families while also fostering long-term transformation.

While the traditional Hunger Walk, organized by the Free Store Food Bank, remains an important event with the Healing Center’s participation, the team decided to dedicate their collective energy to the Hope Starts Here campaign due to the significant and urgent needs they are witnessing.

Adrianne explains the inspiration behind the campaign’s name: “We believe that hope starts when a family’s basic needs are met. If you don’t have a warm meal or nutritious food, you struggle mentally, physically, and emotionally. That’s why we are so passionate about providing fresh produce and healthy food through our marketplace.”

The Marketplace: More Than Just a Food Pantry

The Healing Center is proud to operate the largest food pantry in Hamilton County, serving thousands of individuals and families. But it’s not just about handing out food—it’s about creating a welcoming space where people can experience dignity, care, and the possibility of transformation.

Many who come for food discover the Healing Center’s broader offerings, including prayer support, job coaching, and educational classes. These programs are integral to the Healing Center’s mission to inspire hope and help individuals and families build better futures.

Adrianne shares a powerful example: “One gentleman started coming to learn English at the Healing Center. Over time, he became proficient, earned his GED, and was recently accepted into the police academy. Stories like his are why we do what we do.”

Living Hope: A Series and a Call to Action

As the church embarks on the Living Hope series, the timing aligns perfectly with the Hope Starts Here campaign. This synergy highlights how we, as a community of faith, are called to be vessels of living hope to those around us.

Hope is not just a feeling but a transformative power that sets us apart and empowers us to make a tangible difference. The Healing Center embodies this mission by providing an environment where the Holy Spirit can work, and real transformation can occur.

Creating an Environment for Transformation

The Healing Center staff recognizes that transformation is ultimately a work of the Holy Spirit. Their role is to create a supportive environment where families feel safe, cared for, and inspired to grow. This approach fosters holistic healing—spiritually, emotionally, and physically.

Adrianne emphasizes, “We want to create an environment where the Holy Spirit can work and people can experience the real transformation that comes from hope in Christ.” This holistic view of healing extends beyond material needs to encompass every aspect of a person’s life.

How You Can Get Involved

The Hope Starts Here campaign invites everyone in the church community to participate in meaningful ways. Whether through prayer, volunteering, or financial giving, each person can play a vital role in supporting families in need.

  • Pray: Begin by seeking God’s guidance on how He wants you to be involved. Prayer is the foundation of all ministry, and your prayers can make a significant impact.
  • Serve: The Healing Center relies on volunteers to meet the increasing demand. Your time and talents are invaluable in providing hands-on assistance to those who walk through the doors.
  • Give: Financial support helps sustain the programs and services that make transformation possible. Consider contributing to the Hope Starts Here campaign to help meet urgent needs.

Adrianne encourages everyone to be attentive to God’s nudges and to respond with obedience and grace. “This church has been such an amazing part of the Healing Center’s story for seventeen years. We are all part of this community, and together we can make a difference.”

A Community United in Hope and Holiness

The Healing Center is more than just a place—it’s a living testament to the power of community, compassion, and faith. It reminds us that holiness is not an abstract concept but a daily practice expressed through acts of love and service.

As a church family, we are called to be the hands and feet of Christ, bringing hope to the hopeless and light to the darkest places. The Hope Starts Here campaign is an invitation to live out that calling in a practical, impactful way.

“Hope starts when families’ basic needs are met. When people come to the Healing Center, they don’t just find food—they find prayer, job coaching, classes, and a community that cares deeply about their transformation.” — Adrianne Wiley
