Nothing's Easy for God

Eric Ferris | August 27, 2015

Every Tuesday morning the entire staff of Vineyard Cincinnati gathers in the Chapel to worship and pray. During this prayer meeting we pray for every prayer card that is filled out during the previous weekend’s worship services.

This week I picked up two prayer requests that could not have been more different. One request was about drug addiction. Wow…that’s hard. Another was about a lost screwdriver. Huh…that’s pretty easy. The fact that they were so very different reminded me of an often forgotten truth about God’s power.

Degrees of difficulty. Easy…hard…harder…hardest. There are degrees of difficulty when it comes to humans. Our strength is limited. You might be able to lift 25 lbs with ease, but 100 lbs is pretty tough. Someone else might be able to lift 150 lbs, but tap out at 250 lbs

We know the difference between easy and hard, so it’s possible we think that God is like us. He’s not. There is no such thing as easy or hard with God. The word for that is “omnipotent.” This simply means “all-powerful.” In other words, there is nothing God can’t do. He is able to do whatever He chooses to do. There are no degrees of difficulty with God. No easy. No hard. He just can. Can what? Whatever He chooses to do.

So what? When I prayed this morning, I was reminded that drug addiction is not more difficult for God than helping someone find a lost screwdriver. It’s not like God says, “Ok…I’ll take the easy one and help this person find their screwdriver today and then rest up to handle the big drug addiction problem tomorrow.” The God revealed to us in the Scriptures is omnipotent.

I prayed confidently this morning for both requests. Our God is a drug-addiction freeing, screwdriver finding God. (Wave your hanky…that’s good preachin’!) He can do anything and cares about it all. He even cares about the stuff we think is silly because He cares about us
