Week 1 Summary

Think about the last time you recommended something to a friend. Maybe it was a restaurant that changed how you think about tacos. Maybe it was a show you binged in a weekend and immediately texted three people about. Nobody had to train you to do that. Nobody sat you down and taught you the "steps" to a good recommendation. You just loved something, and it came out of you.

So why does sharing our faith feel so different?

That's the question at the center of this week's Everyday Evangelism teaching. And the honest answer might sting a little: it's not a technique problem. It's a love problem.

Questions

  1. Icebreaker: What's something you love so much that you can't help but tell people about it — a restaurant, a show, a book, a place? What makes you want to share it?

  2. No one has to be convinced to recommend a great meal or a great song — it just comes out. When has your faith felt that natural to talk about? What made it feel that way?

    Acts 4:20 — "We cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard."

  3. What's the difference between sharing your faith and sharing a restaurant recommendation? What makes one feel natural, and the other feel hard?

  4. Two honest possibilities: we don't love God as much as we think, or we don't love people as much as we think. Which one lands closer to home for you right now? Be honest.

    1 John 4:19 — We love because He first loved us.

  5. What does it feel like to consider that the reason you're not sharing your faith might not be fear or lack of training but a cooling of love? What stirs in you when you hear that?

  6. What would it look like in your daily life if your love for Jesus were more alive, more present, more obvious, more overflowing? What would be different?

    Romans 5:5 — God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.

  7. You can pray for a heart for God and a heart for people. These are miracles available to us. Have you ever prayed for that specifically? What happened?

  8. What would it look like if your love for the people around you (your neighbor, your coworker, your family member who exhausts you) started to grow? How would you treat them differently?
